What Is an Urban Monk?

Urban Monks are encouraged to share their experiences with family, friends, co-workers, students, congregations, neighbors, organizations, groups, and/or with one another to help ensure that social issues and injustices are not left unresolved in the communities in which they live, work, worship, recreate, socialize, and/or serve. They are also encouraged to share their experiences in order to cultivate their ability, and the collective ability of others, to improve the quality of life of their neighbors.

As ordinary people, Urban Monks seek to live extraordinary lives by deepening a personal living covenant with God as agents of change and healing. They not only confront the social wrongs experienced by others, but seek to right such wrongs furthering the tradition of past and contemporary Christian reformers.
